SRT subtitles for YouTube

YouTube's automatic captions are a starting point, but uploading your own reviewed SRT gives viewers accurate text and gives you control over line breaks and timing.

Create an SRT

In short

  • Upload the original recording you own — this tool does not download from YouTube links.
  • Generate, then review the flagged lines.
  • Export SRT (or VTT) and upload it in YouTube Studio.
  • No watermark on subtitle downloads.

Why upload your own captions

Reviewed captions fix names, jargon and punctuation that automatic captions miss, and you decide where lines break so each caption reads comfortably.

Readability rules of thumb

  • Keep captions to one or two short lines.
  • Split at natural pauses, not mid-phrase.
  • Fix any caption flagged for fast reading speed.

Upload to YouTube

In YouTube Studio, open the video's Subtitles section, choose to upload a file with timing, and select your SRT.
